Your first 6 months of training with ANS will be based in Langen, near Frankfurt, Germany at the training academy learning the fundamental skills you require as an Air Traffic Controller. Subjects include: Aviation Law, Radio Telephony and Meteorology, after which you will spend the next couple of years working alongside experienced Air Traffic Controllers to complete your training.

The Job

As a controller you’ll be responsible for providing a safe, orderly and expeditious service to the aircraft. There are 3 working positions at Gatwick – Tower, Ground and Delivery. You will be trained to work on all 3 positions and will move between them during a shift.

Ground – the controller in this position looks after aircraft pushing back from the stands and aircraft vehicles moving around the airfield. The ground controller must identify conflictions in traffic and ensure that aircraft can route safely around the airfield.

Delivery – The controller in this position issues aircraft with their initial departure routing clearance as well as managing outbound traffic levels.
