Job Title: Financial Controller

Reports to: Managing Director 

Team MGT: Managing team of 3+ 

Financial Management

  • Ensure day to day financial activities are effectively delivered including:
    • sales & purchase ledger,
    •  preparation of month end management accounts,
    • calculation of accruals,
    • prepayments and other accounting entries,
    • cashflow & treasury management,
    • fiscal and regulatory returns in accordance with business requirements, parent Company policy / guidelines and all applicable accounting rules and regulations.
  • Manage the monthly Management Information reporting process and ensure the delivery of clear, concise, timely and accurate performance reports.
  • Board meeting Quarterly reporting to be produced to include re-forecasting against plan.
  • Responsible for cash reporting and cash management procedures to ensure working capital is adequately managed.
  • Ensure that effective financial structures and controls are in place to support the requirements of a rapidly changing business, minimizing risk and identifying issues then recommending potential operational efficiencies and improvements to working practices and procedures.
  • Continually monitor business performance and provide updates to the management team on a regular basis.  Ensuring variances are fully understood and followed up with corrective action recommended as needed. 
  • Develop and maintain Capital Expenditure reporting & controls, ensuring policies are adhered to.
  • Develop and monitor department Key & Operational Performance Indicators to monitor progress against departmental objectives and service levels.
  • Develop a culture of empowerment and financial awareness throughout the business with a customer focused approach to its internal client base.
  • Play a lead role in the specification, implementation and improvement of new financial systems and processes.
  • Manage the year end process and relationship with the external auditors in terms of preparing the annual report & accounts.
  • Build strong relationships with DFS and internal/external auditors.
  • Reporting requirements for DFS Group requirements and planning.
  • Act as Company Secretary as required.

Financial Planning

  • Working with the MD lead the annual planning and forecasting processes adapting to business needs as appropriate.
  • Strategic Plan/Annual Plan:
    • Define each process to allow for collaborative working and review cycles, ensuring deadlines are met
    • Ensure modelling is valid and robust, analysing and challenging results
    • Present to relevant parties and ensure communication of agreed numbers to the business is completed on a timely basis
  • Develop and extend business analysis and modelling to improve understanding of the business and new / ongoing commercial projects / opportunities aiding strategic decision making and oversite.
  • Support the commercial finance aspects of the business, evaluating financial impacts of activities and initiatives, equipping business management to make operational and strategic decisions.
  • Help model and analyse Return on Investment of strategic and commercial initiatives and guide the business in making financial trade-offs and optimally allocating investments / resources.
  • Produce and develop Finance Department objectives for each financial year.

Financial Development

  • Working with the MD build relationship management with banks for current and future business requirements.
  • Develop further financial control procedures in compliance with DFS policies.

Management of People

  • Leadership of a new and developing team
  • Management of performance with regular reviews, taking appropriate action where required.
  • Give clear and timely direction to the staff under your control to ensure that all services are provided in accordance with current legislation and Company process and policy.
  • Ensure taht all staff are fully trained and qualified to carry out their assigned tasks
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and external contacts
  • Regularly attend and present at senior management meetings and relevant ad-hoc internal meetings as requested and required.
  • Actively promote ANS to internal and external customers, carrying out all duties in an efficient, professional and courteous manner; clearly and effectively communicate with customers and staff.
  • Demonstrate the Company values within the business always.
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested by your Manager.

 

Personal Specification

 

Qualifications and Training

=      Educated with relevant degree or equivalent

=      Fully qualified accountant ACA/ACCA/CIMA (or equivalent)

Experience

=      Demonstrated financial control and management reporting experience.

=      Proven management / supervisory experience and experience of managing a small finance team.

=      Exposure & involvement with commercial finance aspects of businesses, assisting financial decision making.

=      Operated at a senior level demonstrated partner to Managing Director and senior management team

=      Experience of system implementation and development / process improvement

=      Experience of working within a busy service environment.
