Project Manager - Gatwick & Edinburgh

The Project Manager will be responsible for managing the full project life cycle for a number of key business projects and initiatives. He or she will work within and help further develop the established professional project management methodologies, techniques, and controls ensuring project governance is understood and adhered to throughout the organisation.  The Project Manager will co-ordinate internal resources and work closely with the Customer and other third parties to ensure Projects are delivered successfully, on time and to budget. The Project Manager will report project progress to the project boards / Senior Management teams ensuring any issues are openly communicated and addressed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead day to day planning and delivery of multifunctional projects.
  • Work within and, where appropriate, develop standardized project management methodology ensuring effective, efficient governance of all projects; championing a consistent and practical approach to project management throughout the organisation while instilling discipline and focus.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget through project life cycle management.
  • Develop and deliver Strategic Business Cases and Project Execution Plans for each project.
  • Manage remote project teams throughout the project life cycle from Initiation, Design & Delivery and Handover & Close-Out.
  • Coordinate project resources (both internal and external) including stakeholder mapping and engagement.
  • Manage the compliance of contractors to contract terms and conditions.
  • Maintain the master documents and business tools which drive the on-target delivery of each project.
  • Manage risks and ensure contingency plans are in place where required.
  • Ensure Change and Configuration Management are executed in a controlled manner while balancing any scope creep with the business needs and project deliverables.
  • Develop project reporting to a range of audiences including Highlight Reports and End Stage/project assessments to the project board / sponsor while effectively and transparently communicating project status.
  • Create Lessons Learned Reports and End Project Reports.
  • Develop and track business case value traceability and reporting with key performance indicators to measure all project deliverables and benefits.
  • Support and mentor colleagues to manage smaller business projects as appropriate and within set frameworks.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with project team, co-workers, supervisors, the customer and external contacts while balancing a day-to-day workload with the requirements of the projects.
  • Highlight future project opportunities that help deliver the Company’s strategic aims, improve processes, and/or improve service to clients.

Personal Specification

Qualifications and Training:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Prince 2 Practitioner, PMP, Six Sigma qualified or equivalent.
  • Experience:Significant Project Management experience.
  • Solid technical background with experience managing complex multi-functional projects.
  • Knowledge of the aviation and air traffic industry is desirable.

Competencies and Attitude:

  • Highly competent communicator including written communications (reports, instructions etc.).
  • Strong influencing skills – capable of working with and challenging internal and external senior managers and directors. 
  • Experience producing monthly reports relating to project deliverables.
  • Experience developing stakeholder relationships.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail being able to work under pressure to deadlines and prioritize activities.
  • Able to respond to the needs of the business.
  • Experience to include interpretation of contracts, implementation of project controls, contract correspondence and close out of projects.
  • Experience in programme creation, analysis, interpretation and reporting.
  • A strong analyst able to quickly identify priorities in complex situations.
  • Strong IT skills.
