Summary of Role

To improve ATM operational effectiveness and safety by identifying and mitigating human factors risks in current and future ATM systems.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Undertake Hazard and Risk Analysis and provide specialist expertise in Human Error/Reliability Analysis
  • Influence and develop procedures and guidance on the integration of Human Factors within ANS
  • Provide expertise and guidance to Design, Validation, Certification and Assurance of complex systems
  • Deliver/support Training
  • Provide technical support and advice on relevant legislation, human factors principles during system implementation
  • Project Management: design, evaluate and develop interfaces for ATC applications
  • Efficiently coordinate and manage resources and expertise within ANS, as well as those made available to ANS for the respective tasks.
  • Management of all stakeholders relevant to any internal and external Human Factors related activities, including but not limited to the CAA, our customers, Airlines, community representatives and internal stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with project teams, co-workers, supervisors, the customer and external contacts while balancing a day-to-day workload with the requirements of the projects.
  • Identify and evaluate new HF methods and tools suitable for application to ANS projects.
  • Act as the focal point for human factor assurance aspects on assigned projects.
  • Highlight future project opportunities that help deliver the Company’s strategic aims, improve processes, and/or improve service to clients.

Qualifications and Training

Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Human Factors related subject

Full UK driving licence 

Experience

  • Experience in User Centred Design and User Requirements Development
  • Safety Critical domain experience, ideally aviation/experience in Control Room, Workstation & HCI design
  • Familiarity with Physical Ergonomics & Anthropometrics
  • Knowledge of Human Factors Engineering and Human Factors Integration
  • Understanding of safety cases and applying HF Assurance processes to projects and operational services
  • Knowledge and experience in Human Performance Assessment measures and methods
  • Experience in Incident/Accident Investigation and Interviewing techniques
  • Staff/Trainee selection and recruitment experience
  • Experience in coordinating work within a diverse team and across all departments, internal and external (e.g. customers, partners, service providers etc.) and strong stakeholder management capabilities.

Competencies 

  • A champion of HF at a strategic level whilst also providing detailed authoritative ‘grass roots’ support
  • Highly competent communicator including written communications (reports, instructions etc.).
  • Strong influencing skills – capable of working with and challenging internal and external senior managers and directors. 
  • Experience producing monthly reports relating to project deliverables.
  • Experience developing stakeholder relationships.
  • Pro-active approach - able to identify areas of need and to manage outputs.
