Lead Investigator

As part of the corporate ANS function, this key role in the SSQ function to oversee and provide ownership and leadership in investigations across all units, being carried out across both operations and engineering. When required the role will provide additional  resource and support to all ANS units in the form of conducting safety investigations. As the company's lead investigator this role will provide the drive and focus to ensure investigations are completed within the required timescales, to the required ANS standard, ensuring that ANS remains compliant. The role will also be responsible for the tracking and management to completion of unit owned recommendations, and the reporting on a monthly basis to the board of trends and associated risks.  Effective delivery of investigator training will also form a key part of the role not just for ANS but the wider market.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight to all units to ensure the standard of investigations produced is consistent and meets ANS requirements.
  • Ownership of the TOKAI system, ensuring use, application, updates and provision of training are provided to users.
  • Proactively track and drive the completion of Safety Recommendations and report to the Head of Safety Security and Quality and ANS Executive team when agreed actions are not going to be completed on time.
  • Create monthly safety reports (working with Unit Safety leads), including key items identified through investigations.
  • As a fundamental role within SSQ, build relationships with customers and their safety departments, participating as and when required in joint investigations
  • Working to deliver effective training solutions which can be delivered to investigators both in ANS and to the wider market.
  • Ensuring that the training package delivers to the highest standard possible.
  • Look at reporting capabilities from existing and future systems that may be available in industry.  
  • Carry out  investigations as required and on occasions when unit resource is not available to complete investigations within the required timelines.
  • Use of safety systems including TOKAI, Veristore for the completion of investigations.
  • Conduct interviews with UCA, ATCO, ATSA, Engineers and other staff to complete the investigations.
  • Professional liaison if applicable with airport/airline safety departments as part of the investigation process
  • Organise and run RAT scoring meetings.
  • Provide trend analysis based on investigation findings to Senior Management and make recommendations where appropriate.
  • Provide transcripts of R/T- recordings if requested and required for the Head of Safety.
  • Proactively ensure that ANS remains up to date with regulatory requirements on ATC safety investigations.
  • Responsible for maintaining highest level of data security on all related data.
  • Provide support training of local safety investigators as and if required.
  • Actively participate in the European TOKAI user’s forums, whilst continuing to develop the UK TOKAI Users Group.  
  • When required, take part and following training, lead audits across the entire range of unit activities, including the production of written reports and recommendations.

Qualifications and Training:

  • Proficient in Microsoft office
  • Investigator Training

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Understanding of an ATM environment.
  • Previous investigation experience would be advantageous.
  • Aviation Industry – Safety Framework
